Commemorative Trees

Remembrances and Honor

Our Commemorative Tree program is evident throughout town, on our streets and in our parks and cemeteries.  Since our founding, the Friends of Manchester Trees has planted commemorative trees on behalf of our donors who wish to honor someone important to them, whether a family member, good friend, or special town official or volunteer. These remembrances provide a living memorial to celebrate someone special.  At the same time, the entire community enjoys the beauty and benefits of a vibrant tree canopy in our town.

How it Works

We ask for a $475 donation to cover most, but not all, of the costs to purchase, plant, and care for a Commemorative Tree.  We  work with the donor to determine an appropriate location, size, and tree species, and then apply to the DPW for permission to procure and plant the tree on town property.  The Friends will water and care for the tree for the next three years, until it is established. We also install a staked plaque, as shown below, which includes a QR code that provides the name of the donor and the honoree, and shows the tree on a GPS map of Manchester.
